Victorian Riichi Mahjong League (VicRML)

VicRML is a league started in 2025, with the long-term goal being to create a competitive league for players to show and develop their mahjong skill. The league is modeled after other international league formats to suit the Victorian playerbase, where a set group of players compete against each other over several months, followed by a final cut for the top players to play 8 hanchan to crown the champion. Scores are cumulative over the entire season, and are reset for the finalists.

Players are expected to be competent at scoring hands (at least 30, 40, and 50 fu hands) and to be able to maintain a high level of etiquette (including pace of play, mannerisms, and general competitive integrity).

Rules have generally followed the WRC ruleset with modifications (red fives, 30/10 uma, nagashi mangan, lower penalties): Season 0 had remaining riichi bets at the end of the hanchan go to first place and allowed for kazoe yakuman, while Season 1 had remaining riichi bets stay on the table. Season 0 was hand-shuffled, while Season 1 was played on automatic tables. Season 2 used the full WRC 2025 ruleset with no modifications.
